This Winter Season: Park on the Odd Side of the Road During Snow Emergencies

During snow emergencies this winter, residents must park on the ODD side of the road only, unless otherwise posted. Residents encouraged to sign up for City alerts in advance.

As snow season approaches, the City of Somerville reminds all residents that for winter season 2019-2020, the side of the street where snow emergency parking is allowed will change to the odd side. 

In 2015, the City instituted an annually-alternating parking policy for snow emergencies, using odd-side-only parking for winter seasons that begin in an odd year and even-side-only parking for winter seasons that begin in an even year. Winter seasons begin in November and run until May of the following calendar year.

Report focuses on health across life stages and promotes holistic look at wellbeing, including social determinants from prenatal stage onward

The City of Somerville and Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) released today the 2017 Wellbeing of Somerville Report, a comprehensive look at the health of city residents. The report highlights health across the life stages: prenatal and early childhood, school age and adolescent, early adult, young adult, middle adult, and older adult.
 

Prospect Hill Park Community Meeting #3: December 12 at 6 p.m.

Please join Ward 3 Alderman Robert McWatters, and the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, for the third in a series of community meetings to discuss upcoming renovations to Prospect Hill Park. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 6 p.m., in the Somerville High School Auditorium, 81 Highland Ave.

Meeting Tuesday, December 5, to Discuss ArtFarm Updates

Continuing a multi-year planning and design process, all interested parties are invited to join Mayor Joseph Curtatone and the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development on Tuesday, December 5, at 6 p.m. at the Brickbottom Artists Association, 1 Fitchburg St., for a meeting to discuss the future of the ArtFarm site. Attendees will be updated on next steps for the project.  A community meeting will follow in February 2018 to obtain feedback on final designs.
 

Historic Somerville Merchandise on Sale for Holiday Season

Just in time to complete your holiday shopping, the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission has “Preserving Somerville” merchandise available for sale. The T-shirts (youth and adult sizes), long-sleeved shirts, and tote bags, designed by Somerville High School students, come in a variety of colors that can be viewed on the Commission’s website. Full color woven and washable afghans are also available and include images of iconic historic sites in the City.
 

POSTPONED: Community Path Repairs (Buena Vista Rd. to Cambridge Line)

The City of Somerville’s Engineering Department announced this week that construction previously scheduled to begin in November for the Community Path, between Buena Vista Rd. and the Cambridge line, will be postponed until 2018.
 
The project will repair drainage systems in that area to address recurring flooding issues and to improve safety.
 
When the start of work is rescheduled, additional notification will be provided.

Somerville Named Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists

City now one of two communities in Massachusetts to earn the Gold Level award; Designation is the result of a surge in construction and utilization of bicycle infrastructure, expansion of the Neighborways Program, and more efforts

SOMERVILLE – The League of American Bicyclists last week recognized the City of Somerville with a Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) award, advancing from the City’s previous Silver Level distinction. Somerville joins its neighbor Cambridge as one of only two communities in Massachusetts to earn the Gold Level award. There are 29 Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Communities across the country.

Somerville Community Invited to Donate Goods for Troop Care Packages

For 11 Years Fisher College has adopted a service member overseas and in their honor, the Fisher community has come together to assemble care packages to send to our troops overseas. This year, the Somerville Office of Veterans’ Services joins the Fisher College Student Veterans’ Organization to collect items to send to our troops.
