New Reusable Water Bottle Refilling Station Installed in Davis Square

SOMERVILLE – Statue Park in Davis Square is home to the City of Somerville’s newest public reusable water bottle refilling station thanks to the city’s residents who participated in the Somerville Energy Efficiency Now (SEEN) campaign in 2016. 

'Story Time with Mayor Curtatone' on Oct. 21 at Central Library

Join Mayor Joe Curtatone, the Somerville Public Library, and Somerville-based Publisher Candlewick Press for an afternoon story time on Saturday, October 21. Mayor Curtatone will read Windows — a new picture book set in Somerville!
 
Julia Denos and E.B. Goodale, author and illustrator of Windows, will join the mayor for this very special story time to answer questions about the book.

“Inclusion Drives Innovation,” a Celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Planned for Oct. 24

The Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities invites all community members to its annual event in celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, on Tuesday, October 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The event, “Inclusion Drives Innovation,” will take place on at the Highlander Café at Somerville High School (atrium entrance), and will feature visual art, poetry, music, and a panel discussion led by Adriana Malozzi, Founder and CEO of Puffin, and Rachel Tanenhaus. 

“Haunted Hall” Event Returns to City Hall Concourse November 2, 2017

FREE Halloween event features pumpkin decorating, activities for kids, haunted “house,” and more!

SOMERVILLE – Join the City of Somerville on Thursday, November 2, for the annual “Haunted Hall” event on the City Hall concourse from 6 to 8 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature a costumed Halloween Stroll, safe Trick-or-Treating, games and activities, refreshments, a Haunted “Hallway” tour, and more.

Young attendees are invited to participate in the annual “Halloween Stroll,” stepping off at 6:15 p.m. Costumes are encouraged for all ages, and all “haunted” elements will be appropriate for attendees of all ages. 

Neighborhood Meeting to Discuss Upcoming Repairs to Drainage Along Community Path, November 2

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 6 Alderman Lance Davis, and the City of Somerville Engineering Department invite residents to a community meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss upcoming construction to drainage systems abutting a portion of the Community Path. The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church at 31 College Ave. Impacted sections include the area between Willow Ave. and Grove St., and along portions of Winslow Ave.
 

Saturday, Oct. 28 is National Take Back Day

Help us keep our youth safe by properly disposing of unused and unwanted medications.

Somerville residents are encouraged to dipose of unwanted medications safely and properly.  There is always a permanent Med Return Drug Collection Kiosk in the lobby of the Somerville Police Department, 220 Washington Street in Somerville.  Disposal is free, anonymous and available 24/7.  The following items can be deposited in the kiosk:
 
  • Prescription and over-the-counter medications
  • Pet medications
  • Samples of medications
  • Pills, capsules, inhalers, ointment and patches
  • Vitamins

Public Hearings and Opportunities to Comment on Union Square Development: Nov. 20, Nov. 30, and Beyond

The next round of public input on Union Square development will be a two-part public hearing at two Planning Board meetings on Nov. 20 and 30. After multiple years of public process to develop the Union Square Neighborhood Plan as well as Union Square Zoning, the community has set forth the parameters of Union Square development.

Somerville Seeking Community Members to Serve on GLX Working Group

As part of regional working group, Somerville will have 5 “station area” representatives, and 2 at-large representatives.

As part of a regional partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and the Cities of Cambridge and Medford, the City of Somerville is seeking residents to serve on the Green Line Extension (GLX) Working Group. Major construction activities are expected to begin in early 2018, and the GLX Community Working Group will provide a collaborative forum for information exchange between the MBTA GLX Project Management Team and external stakeholders.

Somerville Public Library Hires Health Services Coordinator

Coordinator believed to be first-of-its-kind position within the Minuteman Library Network.

The Somerville Public Library is pleased to announce the hiring of a Health Services Coordinator, to provide referrals and related services on behalf of vulnerable populations. Beginning in mid-November, the Coordinator will be available to members of the public at all three branches of the Library.
