Detours Thurs. 11/26 for Road Race Starting at 9 a.m. (Davis, Broadway, Medford St., Summer St.)

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Thurs., Nov. 26, roads in the Davis Sq., Broadway, Medford St. and Summer St. areas may experience temporary traffic delays as runners pass by. The race route begins on Holland St., right onto Broadway, right on North St., right on Powderhouse Blvd., onto Broadway through Ball and Magoun Squares, right on Medford St., right on Central St., and right on Summer St., ending at Grove St. in Davis Sq. Please note that eastbound traffic on Holland St. will be detoured at Cameron Ave. between 9 and 9:30 a.m. at the start of the race.

Public Invited to Public Hearing on Economic Inequality 12/10

All are invited to a Public Hearing before the Board of Aldermen on Thursday, December 10, 2015, at 7 p.m., in the Aldermanic Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. to provide public input on the issue of economic inequality. Please come share your concerns, suggestions, requests and ideas on how to address economic inequality in Somerville. This hearing is in response to a request for a public hearing on the subject submitted by 195 registered voters to the Board of Aldermen on October 22, 2015 (#200177).

Somerville Board of Health Passes New Tobacco Regulations

SOMERVILLE – On Nov. 19, 2015, the Somerville Board of Health voted to adopt amended tobacco regulations in the City of Somerville pertaining to sales of tobacco and nicotine delivery (e-cigarettes) products, as well as to smoking in workplaces and public places. The new regulations take effect March 15, 2016.

SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Public Library and the Office of Somerville Commissions invite your participation in newly-created book discussion series on Race & Racism.
The Somerville Library Book Series on Race and Racism is a program that features three separate books and discussions, plus a panel discussion co-sponsored by the Office of Somerville Commissions from January to April on every third Thursday evening at the Main Branch Library (79 Highland Ave.) from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

5 Affordable Rental Units in New Millbrook Lofts to be Designated for Artists

Public meeting Feb. 3 to discuss artist certification process, application timeline. 15 of the 100 units in the development to be designated affordable. 5 of the 15 affordable units are for certified artists.

SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Arts Council and the Housing Division of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development announced this week a public meeting to discuss a first-of-its-kind housing opportunity for Somerville artists. On Wed., Feb. 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Armory at 191 Highland Ave., City staff will present information about five (5) affordable rental units for certified artists as artist live/work space.

Athletic Fields Master Planning Public Meetings on Mar. 9 and Mar. 15

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone invites all interested persons to two presentations and discussions on the City’s Athletic Fields Master Planning process on March 9 and 15. City park planners, Recreation staff, and SomerStat analysts will share data on permitted field usage citywide, discuss factors that guide field planning and maintenance, and lay out recommendations for field improvements and maintenance investments.
