The following is an important update from the Somerville Police regarding recent gun activity.

The Somerville Police Department is actively investigating two recent gun incidents that occured this week (week of June 24, 2024).  

City of Somerville Announcing Resale of One (1) Affordable Home Ownership Opportunity at 9 Avon Place

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) are pleased to announce the income-restricted resale of one (1) 3-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom condominium. Located at 9 Avon Place, unit nine will be available to income-eligible households with a combined annual gross income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).  

Somerville Invited to Brickbottom Neighborhood Plan Public Meeting on Monday, July 8

Community Encouraged to Ask Questions and Share Feedback on Current Version of the Neighborhood Plan

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City’s Planning, Preservation, and Zoning Department invite Somerville community members to a public meeting to help inform the final draft of the Brickbottom Neighborhood Plant. City Staff will present the most current version of the plan and will answer questions from the community. 

The meeting will be hybrid, taking place both in-person and via Zoom.

Somerville Hosting Tufts Street Reconstruction Community Open House, Wednesday, July 10

Open House Will Showcase Proposed Street Safety Improvements and Collect Neighborhood Feedback

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward One Councilor Matthew McLaughlin, and City of Somerville staff invite you to a community open house to learn about the updated design for transportation safety improvements on Tufts Street.   

The event will take place Wednesday, July 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Glen Park Playground. If there is inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to July 11.  

Somerville Invited to Join Fourth of July Community Fireworks Celebration

Community Party Including Music, Food, and Fireworks Will Begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 27

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne is inviting Somerville to kick off their Fourth of July festivities by joining Somerville’s annual Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration at Trum Field (541 Broadway) on Thursday, June 27 (rain date Friday, June 28).

Somerville Passes “Safe Streets” Ordinance to Accelerate Efforts to Create Safer, More Accessible, Sustainable Streets for All

The City of Somerville is accelerating its ongoing efforts to make city streets safer by ensuring forward-looking design and safety practices are embedded throughout all street improvement projects citywide. This includes reemphasizing the City’s commitment to complete the Somerville Bicycle Network plan’s 40-mile priority network by 2030.
