Annual 9/11 Vigil Walk Scheduled in Somerville

The City's annual vigil walk, in honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, will be held on Monday, September 11, 2017, at 6 p.m. The vigil will begin with a procession stepping off from the Cedar Street intersection of the Community Path, and will conclude with a short ceremony in Davis Square. Statement from Somerville Police Department on Farragut Ave. Shooting

The following is a statement on behalf of the Somerville Police Department:

At approximately 5 p.m. this evening, the Somerville Police Department was dispatched to 14 Farragut Avenue after reports of a shooting. A 16-year-old male was found to have serious injuries and was transported to Mt. Auburn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was a resident of Malden. The incident remains under investigation; however, there is not, and never was, a threat to the community at large.

Join Mayor Joseph Curtatone Wednesday, September 6, at 9 a.m. in Union Square Plaza for an important announcement regarding the future of multi-modal mobility and safety in Somerville.
 
Residents are also invited to attend a brief informational “Walk and Talk” where City Traffic and Infrastructure staff will lead a conversation around newly installed bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure in the area. The talk will leave from Union Square Plaza immediately following the announcement.

The Innovation and Opportunity Lab, which is currently seeking members, aims to advance Somerville’s local innovation economy and support budding entrepreneurs.

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville’s ambitious 20-year SomerVision plan aims to realize numerous community-driven goals, and to help realize those public aims, the City is looking to public-private partnerships, known as P3’s, as a potential tool. To start the process, the City, in coordination with a team of consultants from the firm of Burns & Levinson, presented a range of capital projects and innovation infrastructure priorities to government officials and potential private partners at the City-hosted July 20th  P3 Showcase at Partners Healthcare in Somerville.

Vision Zero aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries on Somerville’s streets

Mayor Joseph Curtatone announced today the launch of Vision Zero Somerville, reaffirming the City’s commitment to multi-modal road safety. The initiative will take a multi-department, data-driven approach to improving safety for all road users, whether on bicycles or on foot, in vehicles, or aboard public transit.
