Join Historic Preservation Commission for Tours of Milk Row Cemetery, Prospect Hill Tower

Wondering about the residents of this historic Milk Row Cemetery dating back to 1804? Join the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission on Sunday, November 6, from 2 to 4 p.m., for the final public opening of 2016. Due to its fragile condition, the site is often closed to the public, except by appointment, or during regular openings during the seasonal months.

Lower Speed Limit Goes Into Effect November 7 in Somerville

As of Monday, November 7, new speed limit signs will be up at city entrances and lower speed limits will be in effect across the City of Somerville. The new speed limit throughout the city is 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Posted exceptions with higher speed limits include some main thoroughfares as well as state roads such as Route 16 and McGrath Highway. Posted exceptions with lower speed limits include slow zones such as those near schools.

Cable Television Renewal License Transfer Hearing

The public is invited to attend a public hearing and give testimony on the request for approval of the transfer of control of the cable television licensee from Yankee Cable Partners, LLC to Radiate Holdings, LP due to the sale of RCN from Yankee Cable to Radiate Holdings. The hearing will be held Wed., Nov. 16, at 6 p.m., in the Third Floor Conference Room of City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. A copy of the FCC document detailing the license transfer is available at the Somerville City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, and can be viewed during regular business hours.

West Branch Library Renovation Community Meeting

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 6 Alderman Lance Davis invite you to a West Branch Library Community Meeting. At the meeting you can get updates from the project team and library staff on the plans to renovate the library, ask questions, and provide feedback. Annual Holiday Celebrations in Somerville this December

SOMERVILLE – Join Mayor Curtatone and City staff for Somerville’s annual holiday celebrations, kicking off on Thursday, December 1, with the Christmas Tree Lighting and visit from Santa Claus, on the City Hall Concourse. Also part of the 2016 events are the Somerville Arts Council’s Illuminations Tour on December 16, and a ceremonial lighting of a Menorah on the City Hall Concourse on December 24.

Community Path Paving Coming in Spring

A section of the Community Path will be repaved in the spring of 2017 thanks to funding through the Community Preservation Act (CPA). The Friends of the Community Path worked with the City on a plan to repave the path between Cedar and Grove streets. There are also plans to make improvements to the path west of Davis Square later in the year. The new pavement will make for a smoother journey for people using any mode of transportation on the Community Path.

Applicants Sought for Commission on Energy Use and Climate Change

Mayor Curtatone is seeking applications from Somerville residents to serve on the Mayor's Commission on Energy Use and Climate Change (CEUCC). The CEUCC advises the City and the Mayor's Office of Sustainability and Environment on climate change and energy policy issues and assists the City in program design and outreach related to these topics.
