Medical Marijuana Facility Permit Process Information Session, April 26

Now that medical marijuana is legal in Massachusetts, the City of Somerville has established a Medical Marijuana Treatment Facility Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the City’s Department of Health and Human Services, the Planning Department, and the Police Department. The Advisory Committee will serve to administer a fair and objective municipal review process for all parties interested in opening a Medical Marijuana Treatment Facility in Somerville.

New 311 Phone App Streamlines City Services

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville is launching an improved 311 mobile app that puts a positive spin on leaving residents to their own devices. With just a few clicks, the new app now relays non-emergency complaints directly from residents to the responsible city departments, and also includes a “Waste Wizard” that provides key information on recycling and trash pickups.

City to Host Info Sessions on Plastic Bag Ban

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville will host four informational sessions aimed at helping businesses learn how to comply with an ordinance that, starting later this year, will ban plastic bags at checkout counters.

New Somerville ‘Data Farm' Gives Real-Time Look at City Operations

New interactive, online portal makes raw data and data visualizations available

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone is excited to announce a new home for the City's data sets, which gives Somerville residents easy access to the same data he uses to make decisions. Now you can take a trip to the Data Farm to follow data trends in the City and use the data for your own analysis.

Somerville's Data Farm is home to "locally sourced and handpicked food for thought," which includes three portals of data visualizations as well as a fourth portal with the "data seeds" (the raw data) used to "grow" the other portals:

Lincoln Park Groundbreaking Ceremony Friday, June 17

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 2 Alderman Maryann Heuston invite the public to attend the Lincoln Park groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Lincoln Park (near the Argenziano School playground).  The ceremony will mark the official start of the long-awaited renovation of Lincoln Park. New features include a multi-use grass field, a new Argenziano schoolyard, an updated softball diamond, community gardens, an outdoor play area, Parkour and skateboard areas, 150 new trees, outdoor exercise equipment, new lighting, and an off-leash dog area.

Somerville Open Space Plan Open House 7/6 at 6pm

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone invites the public to attend an open house to review and discuss a draft of the Somerville Open Space & Recreation Plan. The open house is scheduled for Wednesday, July 6, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents are encouraged to examine the plan -- which includes data on public parks, green spaces, and Somerville’s urban canopy – and to discuss open space planning in the City.

City Gets Authority to Prosecute Code Violations

Agreement enables Law Department to criminally pursue problem properties more efficiently

SOMERVILLE -- Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone have reached an agreement under which the City of Somerville’s Law Department will be able to criminally prosecute certain code violations.

The memorandum of understanding allows Assistant City Solicitor David Shapiro to act as a Special Assistant District Attorney responsible for handling Somerville cases. The agreement coordinates efforts between the City and the District Attorney’s office, and will enable the City to pursue problem property owners more efficiently.
