CITY SEEKING NEW LIBRARY DIRECTOR

Maria Carpenter announces departure to accept Library Director position in Santa Monica, CA; Mayor announces nationwide search for new Somerville Director.

SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced this week that the City of Somerville is seeking a new Director of Libraries following the resignation of current director, Maria Carpenter, who has accepted a position as Director of the Santa Monica, California Public Library. Carpenter will step down as Director in Somerville in May, and an Acting Director will be appointed while the City seeks a full-time director. Carpenter has served as Somerville’s Director of Libraries since 2011.

WAR ON RATS: CITY TO ISSUE UNIFORM TRASH CARTS

Delivery of rodent-resistant trash carts to begin in June.

SOMERVILLE – To help control the rodent population and reduce the city’s
solid waste tonnage, the City of Somerville will begin distributing
uniform trash carts to residential units in June. Every household that
receives trash service from the City will be provided, free of charge,
with one 64-gallon, rodent-resistant wheeled trash cart similar to the
Zero-Sort recycling carts already in use.
