WOMEN’S COMMISSION TO CELEBRATE 25th ANNIVERSARY MARCH 19
Local women, organization to be honored for service to women in Somerville
- The Somerville Commission for Women will celebrate its 25th Anniversary with
a special event to introduce the work of the commission and the active role of
commissioners in the community along with present the "Woman of Excellence
Award" and "Best Service Provider to Women Award" at the East
Somerville Community School from 6 to 8 p.m.
on March 19.

- Somerville homeowners would receive the highest property tax exemption in the
state under a proposal submitted by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone to the Board of
Aldermen this week, and the City continues to explore increasing exemptions for
seniors, veterans, widows and those with disabilities that are already double
the state limits.

City of Somerville will re-open the process of finding a developer for
redevelopment of the Powder House Community School, due to Tufts University being
unable to meet the timetable terms on a land disposition agreement.

Somerville’s highest bond rating ever increases based on City’s strong financial practices, growing economy, low overall debt and aggressive debt payments
- Standard & Poor has raised the City of Somerville's bond rating from the
City's highest ever rating, AA-, to a new high of AA+, the second highest
rating on the agency's scale and one spot from the rare AAA rating. In its
report, the bond rating agency cited the City's strong financial practices and
budget management, low overall debt, strong capacity to meet its financial commitments
including aggressive paying off of debt, and a robust, growing economy.

Teen Empowerment and Save Our Somerville, invite all interested community
members to a free workshop and discussion on substance abuse, prescription drug
misuse, and education, as well as strategies for support systems and treatment,
recovery, and coping mechanisms for victims and families. The workshop scheduled
