Somerville by Design Visioning Sessions, Week of 7/29

The latest Visioning Sessions in
the City of Somerville's "Somerville by Design" community planning series for
both East Somerville and Davis Square will be held during the week of July 29th.
Through the informal Visioning Sessions, attendees will be asked to share ideas
and goals to help the City create a roadmap for future development based on
community needs and wishes in these areas. The upcoming sessions will be held

Cedar Street Community Meeting 7/31

Mayor Curtatone and Ward 5 Alderman Courtney O'Keefe invite all
interested residents to a public meeting to discuss flood-related issues and
proposed mitigation in the Cedar and Hall Street neighborhood. The meeting will
be held on Wednesday, July 31st at 6pm at Lowell Street VNA.
Proposed work in this area will include water, wastewater and stormwater system
upgrades. Upgrades to roadway, sidewalk, and bike accommodations will also be completed
as part of this project Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2014.

Smoke and Dye Testing of Sewer Lines

Testing to be done in West Somerville. Smoke is nontoxic, non-staining and creates no fire hazard. Individuals in testing areas with respiratory problems and who are immobile should call (978)-416-8000.

Smoke and dye testing of portions of Somerville’s sewer lines to identify connections between the drain and sanitary sewer systems will be conducted by City contractors Wright-Pierce beginning Monday, July 29, and continuing at various times through Friday, August 9. Residents will be notified via phone and email alerts prior to testing in your neighborhood.

July’s SomerStreets Event to be Held Noon-4pm along Highland Ave. from Walnut Street to Cedar Street

SOMERVILLE - Celebrate summer with the City of Somerville at "Seize the Summer," the July installment of the City's seasonal SomerStreets festival, on Sunday, July 28th from noon to 4pm between Walnut and Cedar Streets on Highland Ave. Seize the Summer is the second of the 2013 SomerStreets celebrations, with the first event having drawn more than 3,000 attendees in June along East Broadway.

and dry weather comes the increased risk for fire hazards, and ask residents to
take necessary preventive steps in your home to decrease this risk.

CITY EXPANDS ELECTRONICS RECYCLING PROGRAM

Electronics Recycling Program now offered daily; Unwanted electronics should be brought to DPW yard for disposal.

SOMERVILLE - Beginning this week, the City will expand its electronics
recycling program by offering a recycling service on weekdays for unwanted
household electronics at no cost to residents.

In addition to accepting TVs and computer monitors, the City's
Department of Public Works now accepts desktop computers, laptops, servers and
server racks, networking equipment, electronic instrumentation, printers,
copiers and scanners, telephones, projectors, keyboards, battery backups,

“GOING GREEN ON RT. 16 @ SOMERSTREETS” SET FOR AUGUST 18th

August’s installment of Open Streets series to feature local “green” initiatives and businesses, live entertainment, activities, food and more

SOMERVILLE - For the third installment of the 2013 SomerStreets series, the City of Somerville presents "Going Green on Rt. 16" scheduled for Sunday, August 18th from noon - 4:00 p.m. along Route 16 (Alewife Brook Parkway), from Broadway to Dilboy Stadium. For this unique street fair, where "roads are closed to cars and open to you," programming includes: Curious Creatures exhibit; live entertainment; craft fair; green initiative businesses; mini golf course; free swim at Dilboy Pool, and much more.
