COURT UPHOLDS CITY’S ZONING IN WINTER HILL STAR MARKET CASE

Decision finds Zoning Ordinance creating Commercial Corridor Districts adheres state and federal law, supports Building Inspector and Planning Board decisions

SOMERVILLE – A judge has ruled in the City of Somerville’s
favor in a lawsuit filed by the owner of the former Star Market in Winter Hill,
who contested denials of a building permit and two special permits and the
legality of the City’s Zoning Ordinance. The judge entered a summary judgment
dismissing all of the plaintiff’s claims.

SECOND MEETING SCHEDULED TO REVIEW CITY’S ACCESSIBILITY SELF-EVALUATION PLAN

Second of two public meetings scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3, gather community feedback. Somerville’s Plan praised by State Agency as “the new standard.”

- The City of Somerville's ADA Coordinator announced today that the City's
second and final public meeting to receive feedback on its report detailing an
exhaustive six-month evaluation of the City's accessibility will be held on
Thursday, Oct. 3rd, at 6 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chambers at City
Hall.

LGBT Skate Night Oct. 26th

Are
you ready to celebrate Halloween - on ice? Please join us for the City of
Somerville's second annual LGBT Skate Night on Saturday, October 26th
from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Veteran's Memorial Skating Rink, 570 Somerville Ave.
All ages and allies are welcome, and costume prizes will be awarded. Tickets
are $10 and include skate rental. Play It
Again Sports,
located in Stoneham, is offering a 10% discount on skate
purchases when you mention Somerville's LGBT Skate Night.

CITY TO SEEK REVISIONS TO ASSEMBLY SQUARE URBAN RENEWAL PLAN

Changes would expand mixed-use neighborhood vision to other redevelopment parcels

SOMERVILLE - The City of Somerville
is pursuing revisions to Assembly Square's
Urban Renewal Plan to ensure that the properties within the entire renewal area
are developed to their highest and best use and fulfill the community's vision
of a vibrant, transit-oriented urban district.  The overall boundaries of the urban renewal
area would not be changed as a result of the proposed amendments to the plan.

Eligible homeowners can purchase plaques at reasonable cost to commemorate the historical significance of their home

house been determined in the past to have historic significance? If so, a
plaque is available for your designated home through the City of Somerville's Historic
Plaque Program. The program is overseen by the Somerville Historic Preservation
Commission
(SHPC), as part of the Commission's mission to identify,
commemorate and honor the important people, places and events that have
contributed to Somerville's rich heritage.

Somerville by Design turns 122-124 Broadway into a design charrette studio where residents and business community interact with City planners and consultants

– The next phase of the City’s Somerville
by Design
community planning process in East Somerville will take place
Monday, Sept. 30 through Wednesday, Oct. 2. A three-day public design charrette
will give residents, the business community and other stakeholders numerous
opportunities to interact with each other, and with City planners and
consultants. This event will build on input from the East Somerville community
