Ceremonial Groundbreaking for East Broadway Reconstruction Project, Ribbon Cutting to officially re-open Chuckie Harris Park

SOMERVILLE - Mayor
Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 1 Alderman Maureen Bastardi announce two events to
celebrate the ongoing renovation along East Broadway. On Monday, July 15th
the City of Somerville will partner with East Somerville Main Streets (ESMS)
for a ceremonial groundbreaking for the East Broadway Reconstruction Project that
began in Fall 2012. The City will also officially re-open the recently
renovated Chuckie Harris Park on Cross Street East. The events will begin at 6

CITY TO SEEK RESIDENT FEEDBACK ON ACCESSIBILITY PLAN

Community’s comments will prioritize comprehensive to-do list

SOMERVILLE
- An exhaustive six-month self-evaluation of the City's
accessibility will be developed into a living, multiyear action plan over the
next two months, with the help of the community, in an effort to ensure that
residents have equal access to the city's streets, sidewalks, buildings, parks
and programs.

Somerville by Design Series Continues in July

The City of Somerville's
"Somerville by Design" community planning series continues this month with
Visioning Sessions for the East Somerville and Davis Square neighborhoods. The
Visioning sessions will be the second of four events in each process to help the
City create a roadmap for future development based on community needs and
wishes in these areas. Somerville by Design series were conducted for Station
Area Planning surrounding the proposed Green Line Extension in 2012. Upcoming
meetings in each neighborhood are as follows:

NEW HEALTH INSPECTOR, CLERKS BOOST CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ISD

Quality of life issues addressed efficiently,better service over the counter and on the phone

SOMERVILLE
- In a move to provide enhanced customer service, City of Somerville Inspectional
Services is introducing several new improvements this month that should benefit
residents, businesses and contractors alike. New Inspectional Services office
hours were introduced on July 1 that align better with both contractors' work
schedules and resident needs, and a new permitting process will make it easier
to submit applications for permits and receive approval.

Nunziato Field to Close Temporarily for Field Repairs

The City of Somerville announced this week that Nunziato
Field will be closed beginning Friday, July 17th for necessary
repairs prior to the fall youth soccer season. This quickly moving project
begins Friday as the City looks to fast track the improvements necessary to
provide the city's children with a safe, durable and high-quality field. The
field will be closed to all users until September 2013.

Greentown Labs brings 92 jobs to the ‘Innovation City’, will expand to over 140 in next five years

SOMERVILLE – An innovative idea incubator
at the forefront of the next-generation industries of clean energy and
clean tech is moving from Boston’s innovation district to the Innovation
City: Somerville.

Greentown
Labs will bring 24 start-up companies that call it home to 28 Dane St.,
along with 92 jobs and plans for expanding to over 140 jobs in the next
five years inside 33,000 square feet of space, a substantial increase
from their current space in Boston’s innovation district.

Neighborhood Safety Alert: Three Robberies in Tufts-Davis area

The Somerville and Tufts University Police Departments report that over the last three weeks three late night robberies have occurred in the area between Davis Square and Tufts University, with the most recent robbery having occurred very early in the morning on Friday, July 19. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, particularly when walking at night, and, if possible, should not walk alone after dark.
