MAYOR ANNOUNCES MEMBERSHIP OF POWDER HOUSE COMMUNITY SCHOOL ADVISORY GROUP

Comprised of residents, business owners, City staff, Technical Advisory Group to help select community partner for PHCS reuse

SOMERVILLE -
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and
the City of Somerville has formed a Technical Advisory Committee Powder House
Community School to review responses to the City's Request for Proposals (RFP)
seeking partners to reuse and/or redevelop the former K-12 public school site. The
site includes an 87,599-square-foot parcel with an existing 80,857-square-foot
building that can be retained or demolished.

Somerville Historic Preservation Commission sponsors month-long events, culminating with annual awards ceremony honoring Somerville residents and homeowners.

Somerville has received a $10,000 grant from Colin Powell's America's Promise
Alliance to support parent/caregiver engagement in early reading. The grant
funds will be used in efforts to be focused in neighborhoods surrounding the
Healey School, in collaboration with community partner agencies, including the
Somerville Public Schools' Somerville Family Learning Collaborative, Shape Up

CITY TO BREAK GROUND ON COMMUNITY PATH EXTENSION

Residents Invited to Groundbreaking Ceremony on Monday, May 13, 6 p.m.

The $2 million quarter-mile project will extend the popular pathway from its current end at Cedar Street to Lowell Street, the site of a future MBTA Green Line transit station.

SOMERVILLE-ARLINGTON CONTINUUM OF CARE AWARDED $2.3 MILLION GRANT FOR HOMELESS ASSISTANCE

SOMERVILLE Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Director of the
City's Housing Division Dana LeWinter announce that the Somerville-Arlington
Continuum of Care, a collaborative planning body of local homeless providers
that coordinates housing and services for homeless families and individuals,
was awarded $2,334,299 in funding from the Department of Housing and Urban
Development for homeless assistance programs following the 2012 application

SPD, SCAP COLLABORATE ON ANNUAL ALCOHOL COMPLIANCE CHECKS AT LOCAL RETAILERS

27 Somerville establishments found to be 100% in compliance

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone
and Somerville Office of Prevention (SOP) Director Cory
Mashburn announced
today that Somerville Cares About Prevention (SCAP) and the Somerville Police
Department conducted a successful minimum age alcoholic beverage purchase law
compliance check in Somerville. The compliance checks are completed annually.
27 licensed establishments in Somerville were visited by members of SCAP,
including student leaders, and the Somerville Police Department in April, and
all were found to be in compliance.
