July’s SomerStreets Event to be Held Noon-4pm along Highland Ave. from Walnut Street to Cedar Street

- "Seize the Summer," the July installment of the City's seasonal SomerStreets
festival, will take place on Sunday, July 29th from noon to 4pm
between Walnut and Cedar Streets on Highland Ave.  It is the second of five SomerStreets
celebrations planned for 2012, with the first event having drawn more than
3,000 attendees in June along East Broadway. 
For this unique street fair, where "roads are closed to cars and open to
you," programming includes: a "Kidical Mass" bike ride to Davis Square;

Lincoln Park Renovations to be Discussed at Community Meetings

Mayor
Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 2 Alderman Maryann Heuston, and the Office of
Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) invite all interested
community members to a series of community meetings to discuss upcoming renovations
to Lincoln Park.  Presentations will be
made on Wednesday, August 1st and Monday, August6th at 6:30 p.m.,
and well be held at the Argenziano School, 290 Washington Street.  The City plans to renovate Lincoln Park in two
phases, the first of which would include:

Director of Transportation and Infrastructure Hayes Morrison announced today
that kiosk installation was under way in Somerville for the popular
metro-Boston Hubway bike-sharing system. 
The first wave of kiosk setup would include locations at Union Square,
Beacon Street near its intersection with Washington Street and at the City Hall

City of Somerville has been approved by the Massachusetts Board of Library
Commissioners (MBLC) to be placed on a waiting list for an $18 million
construction grant to partially fund a new public library in the heart of Union
Square.  Fourteen other communities were listed,
but Somerville received the highest grant award in the state and placed first
in the second round of review. Eight more Massachusetts communities received

Transportation Secretary Richard A. Davey, MBTA Acting General Manager Jonathan
R. Davis and Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today that the City
of Somerville, MassDOT and the MBTA have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
that describes how land will be acquired by the City, or by the Somerville
Redevelopment Authority (SRA) acting as the City's agent, to be transferred to
the MBTA in exchange for a firm commitment by the MBTA and MassDOT to construct

East Broadway Construction Meeting

SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today that Inspectional Services Superintendent

MassDOT / Davis Square Construction

MassDOT is scheduled to install a raised crosswalk on Holland Street at
the MBTA Station.  Weather permitting, construction will begin on Sunday,
August 19th at approximately 2:00 a.m. and continue through
Wednesday, August 22nd.  During this period, the Buena Vista
Parking Lot will remain open. However no vehicular traffic will be allowed on Holland Street from
Winter Street to Dover Street.
