SOMERVILLE – Please join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone for the annual Somerville Spring Clean-Up on Saturday, April 28, 2012 from 10:00am- noon at locations throughout the city. The annual cleanup is sponsored by Comcast. A rain date has been set for Sunday, April 29th. Volunteers should meet a ward captain at 10:00am at the following locations:

YSAG Hosts Discussion, Q&A with Mayor Curtatone 5/16

"Young Somervillians" Invited to Join in the Discussion at 6:30 in Davis Sq.

The
Mayor's Young Somerville Advisory Group (YSAG) invites all interested Somerville residents to attend
a discussion with Mayor Curtatone during their monthly meeting on Wednesday,
May 16th.  The meeting will be
held at The Burren (back room) in Davis
Square, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
 YSAG is comprised of Somerville
residents representing individuals in the 21-35 age range, which comprises
approximately 42% of the City's population.

Somerville Historic Preservation Commission sponsors month-long events, culminating with annual awards ceremony honoring Somerville residents and homeowners.

Dog Owners Task Force Meeting Schedule Change

The Somerville Dog Owners Task Force (DOTF) announces
that their regular meeting schedule has been changed from the second Thursday
to the third Thursday of each month.  The next meeting will be held on
Thursday, May 17th at 6:30 pm in the Second Floor Conference Room
(next to the Mayor's Office at City Hall, 93 Highland Ave).   For more information on the meetings or the

SCAP Annual Meeting 5/23

Somerville Cares About Prevention (SCAP) will host their Annual
Meeting on Wednesday, May 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., and all
members of the public are invited to attend. 
The 8th annual meeting, to be held in the Highlander Café, 81
Highland Ave., will feature presentations and discussions about the work of
Somerville Youth and SCAP Youth Leaders to reduce alcohol and drug use in the
Somerville community, other SCAP programming, and will honor and thank members

Curtatone Says Vote is Major Step on Road to Completion of Regional Transit System

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone today praised the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization for what he described as its "wise and visionary" decision to authorize $8.1 million in funding for the study, design and construction of the Route 16 station of the Green Line Extension Project (GLX). At its April 19th meeting, the MPO voted 19 to 2 in favor of a Patrick administration proposal to include funding for the project in the Federal Fiscal Years (FFY) 2013 - 2016 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

Comcast Shifting Boston Metro Gov’t Access Channels in FCC-Mandated Realignment: Education and SCAT Channels Unchanged: RCN Lineup Unaffected

SOMERVILLE
- Director of Communications and Cable Thomas P. Champion announced
today that the City of Somerville's "City Cable" government
access channel, currently broadcast at Ch16 on the Comcast cable
system, will be moving to Ch22 effective June 5, 2012. The move is a
result of adjustments Comcast is making to accommodate the
FCC-mandated relocation of a Massachusetts-based shopping channel,
WWDP. The City's Education Channel (Ch15) and Somerville Community
Access Television (SCAT, Ch3) are unaffected by the change. RCN

National “Kids to Parks Day” May 19

Events at Local Parks, Bicycle-Pedestrian Safety Campaign Kickoff, 2nd Annual “Porchfest” Round out Day’s Celebrations; All Events Free!

The City of
Somerville will join more than 50,000 communities across 45 states this year
for the second annual Kids to Parks Day. 
A grassroots movement started by National Parks Trust, Kids to Parks events
are planned nationwide to celebrate America's parks through active play on
Saturday, May 19th.  In
Somerville, events are planned at several parks throughout the City, including
Hodgkins-Curtin Playground, Albion Park, Lexington Park and the Community Path,
