Events at Local Parks, Bicycle-Pedestrian Safety Campaign Kickoff, 2nd Annual “Porchfest” Round out Day’s Celebrations; All Events Free!

SOMERVILLE - The City of
Somerville will join more than 50,000 communities across 45 states this year
for the second annual Kids to Parks Day. 
A grassroots movement started by National Parks Trust, Kids to Parks events
are planned nationwide to celebrate America's parks through active play on
Saturday, May 19th from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  In
Somerville, events are planned at several parks throughout the City, including
Hodgkins-Curtin Playground, Albion Park, Lexington Park and the Community Path,

City Seeking SomerStreets Vendors

The City of Somerville is seeking
craft vendors, musicians, performance artists, dancers, visual artists,
storytellers and other creative artists to participate in SomerStreets, one of
the area's largest public events where we close the streets to cars and open
them to residents for walking, cycling, running, etc.   The 2012

City, SomDog to Host Seminar on 5/21

Please join the City of Somerville, SomDog, and Magical Mutt Training for a FREE seminar and video discussion on healthy and unhealthy play of dogs, and discuss ways to make a dog park fun

SOMERVILLE - On April 26, 2012, the City of Somerville
and landscape architecture firm Reed Hilderbrand received a Merit Award in the
Parks and Recreation Facilities category for Edward Leathers Community Park, a
one-acre park located on Walnut Street between Medford Street and Pearl Street.
The award was bestowed by the Boston Society of Landscape Architects and marks
the third year in a row the City has been recognized by the BSLA for landscape

SOMERVILLE – With the final version of the City’s SomerVision
Comprehensive Plan now published through the City’s web site, Mayor Joseph A.
Curtatone and Strategic Planning and Community Development Director Michael F.
Glavin announced today that the twenty-year plan, approved last month by the
Somerville Board of Aldermen and City Planning Board would serve as the basis
for a new round of initiatives across the city.

Davis Square Streetscape Meetings Scheduled for June, July, August

and the Office of Strategic Planning of Community Development (OSPCD) invite
all interested community members to a series of meetings to discuss upcoming
Davis Square Streetscape improvements. 
Through this process, the City will evaluate existing and future
transportation needs in Davis Square - including public transit, bicycle and
pedestrian infrastructure, and vehicular traffic patterns - beginning this

Gekow, a Senior Employment Specialist with 24 years of recruiting experience in

City Data to be Posted on Innovative “OpenData” Cloud-Based Service to Provide Easier Access for Residents, Including 311, DPW Stats and More

Socrata, Inc to use the Seattle-based company's hosted OpenData service to
provide direct public access to large amounts of municipal data covering a
variety of departments.   With the
cloud-based service, the City of Somerville will be able to share data
collected through its 311 constituent service system directly with the general
