SOMERVILLE – Mitigating lead paint hazards in Somerville’s housing supply is one of the priorities on Mayor Curtatone’s affordable housing agenda. This month, the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development Housing Division kicks off a new program – Lead Paint Safe Somerville – designed to help address those hazards.

With the outdoor grilling season well underway, the Somerville Fire Department is reminding residents that the use of charcoal, wood or propane grills is not allowed on porches, balconies, fire escapes or roofs.

Join the Somerville Arts Council and ArtsUnion in the Union Square Plaza on Saturday, June 30 for a nighttime artisan and flea market featuring live music by local artists from 5 to 10 p.m. The event will include three musical acts and over 35 vendors featuring fantastic vintage and artisan wares under the stars in the heart of Union Square. There will also be a beer garden sponsored by Brass Union.

The report highlights Somerville’s current and future jobs environment and labor market, workforce development resources, community priorities, actionable workforce development strategies, and ways to measure progress.

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville recently received formal notification from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that the City’s Assessment of Fair Housing Report has been accepted without conditions.

Members of the public are invited to attend and speak at a July 9 Public Hearing on proposed changes to the Demolition Review Ordinance, which currently regulates the demolition of structures 50 years of age or older that are not within an existing Local Historic District. The hearing, held by the Board of Aldermen Legislative Matters Committee of the Whole, will take place Monday, July 9, 6 p.m., at City Hall in the Aldermanic Chambers. At 6 p.m., the hearing will be preceded by a presentation on the ordinance by Director of Planning George Proakis.

Members of the public are invited to attend and speak at a July 9 Public Hearing on the application of the Union Square Neighborhood Council (USNC) to be designated by the City as the neighborhood council for the Union Square area.  Responsibilities of the designated council will include negotiating a Community Benefits Agreement with the Union Square Master Developer, Union Square Station Associates, as well as providing a representative voice for the neighborhood in present and pending proceedings of significance before City departments, boards, and commissions.
