There will be a Public Hearing before the Board of Aldermen’s Committee on Housing and Community Development on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 6:30 PM, in the Aldermanic Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, on the Order of Alderman Ben Ewen-Campen, Chair of the Committee, for public input on the condition of affordable housing units in the City, and whether there is an affordable housing crisis that constitutes a public emergency (Docket #205334). The public is invited to attend and be heard.

Applicant must be a Somerville resident who works at or serves on the board of a Somerville non-profit community-based organization
SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Fair Housing Commission was formed to help prevent housing discrimination in Somerville. The Commission receives complaints about possible fair housing violations and provides information and assistance to residents, including referrals to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. The Commission also conducts outreach to educate the public about state and federal fair housing laws to address housing discrimination. The City of Somerville invites all interested and eligible residents to apply for the Commission’s vacant post.

Somerville Affordable Housing Trust Fund now accepting proposals in two categories: Rental assistance programs or development projects creating affordable housing units
SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Affordable Housing Trust (SAHT) invites local residents, organizations, and businesses to submit applications for the funding of eligible affordable housing programs or projects via its annual distribution of Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds. A total of $1,200,402 in fiscal year 2018 CPA funds have been designated by the Somerville Community Preservation Committee for allocation by the Affordable Housing Trust to benefit residents of Somerville.
Reminder: Bike Month Kickoff Event to be Held Sunday, April 29
Join the Somerville Bicycle Advisory Committee (SBAC) on Sunday, April 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Aeronaut Brewery (14 Tyler St.) for a celebration to kick off Bay State Bike Week. The event will feature live music and a special presentation (at 2 p.m.) and book signing by the nationally renowned urban planner, safe streets advocate, and author of “Walkable Cities” Jeff Speck. Additionally, more than 20 bike advocacy organizations, businesses, and agencies will be in attendance, including representatives from MassDOT, MassBike, Boston Cyclists Union, and more.
