Activities to include Spring Cleanup & BBQ, Green Energy at Home Info Session, Wind Turbine Tour, Mystic River Climate Resilience Panel Discussion, Clothing Upcycling Workshop and More

SOMERVILLE – Following the success of last year’s events and in honor of Earth Day 2018, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the City’s SustainaVille initiative invite all to the second annual SustainaVille Week celebrating sustainability and the environment in Somerville. Programming ranges from outdoor family fun to informative workshops and discussions.

Somerville Spring Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, April 21

Join the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville, and Comcast Cares for the annual Spring Cleanup and Community Barbecue on Sat., April 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A rain date has been set for Saturday, April 29. All participants are invited to meet at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House on Shore Drive, at 9 a.m. for breakfast and coffee before setting out to your ward (note that coffee and breakfast will not be served at each ward).
 

Public Hearing to Discuss Removal of Remaining Trees for Beacon Street Reconstruction Project, April 23

The City of Somerville Tree Warden invites all interested residents and community members to a public hearing on Monday, April 23, to discuss the upcoming removal of six trees as part of the construction process for the Beacon Street Reconstruction Project. The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 220 Washington St. These trees are the remaining trees to be removed by Newport Construction as part of the approved project plans.

Cambridge/Somerville Joint Alewife Brook Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Progress Report for 2018

This notice is required by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as an annual update on the progress of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) control measures to improve the water quality of Alewife Brook. You are receiving this notice because your property lies within the extended 100-year floodplain of Alewife Brook as established and currently in effect by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Somerville Fair Housing Information Session, 4/24

In recognition of Fair Housing Month, the City of Somerville’s Fair Housing Commission invites the public to a community information session on Tuesday, April 24, 6 to 7:30 p.m. on why it is important for renters and buyers, as well as landlords and owners, to understand Fair Housing, and how it can protect you. Led by an attorney from the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), the discussion will cover Fair Housing law, protected classes, and how to file a complaint with MCAD if you feel you have been discriminated against in your housing search.

Public Hearing on State of Affordable Housing in Somerville to Be Held Mon., April 30

There will be a Public Hearing before the Board of Aldermen’s Committee on Housing and Community Development on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 6:30 PM, in the Aldermanic Chambers, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue, on the Order of Alderman Ben Ewen-Campen, Chair of the Committee, for public input on the condition of affordable housing units in the City, and whether there is an affordable housing crisis that constitutes a public emergency (Docket #205334). The public is invited to attend and be heard.

Somerville Seeking Applicants for Fair Housing Commission Vacancy

Applicant must be a Somerville resident who works at or serves on the board of a Somerville non-profit community-based organization

SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Fair Housing Commission was formed to help prevent housing discrimination in Somerville. The Commission receives complaints about possible fair housing violations and provides information and assistance to residents, including referrals to the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.  The Commission also conducts outreach to educate the public about state and federal fair housing laws to address housing discrimination. The City of Somerville invites all interested and eligible residents to apply for the Commission’s vacant post.

Union Square and Inman Square Neighborhood Transportation Forum, 4/24

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Alderman-at-Large Stephanie Hirsch, Ward 2 Alderman J.T. Scott, Ward 3 Alderman Ben Ewen-Campen, and the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development invite you to a forum on Tuesday, April 24 to discuss a potential rerouting of the MBTA #91 bus route in the Lincoln Park neighborhood as well as other transportation and traffic safety matters in the Union and Inman Square area.
