MAYOR CONVENES TASK FORCE TO DEVELOP RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE OF AGING SHS BUILDINGS
Following Reports by Maguire Group, NEASC, Task Force Will Assess Renovations to Existing Structure and Potential Need for a New High School; Maguire Report Cites $10M in Necessary Repairs Prior to Hurricane Sandy Damage
announced today the formation of the Somerville High School Building Task Force
("the Task Force") to evaluate the condition and functionality of the High
School's existing building and facilities with an eye to future needs. Using reports recently completed by the New
England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and The Maguire
Group Inc. (MGI), an engineering firm under contract to the City, the Task
Force will recommend next steps for addressing issues in the current building

Annual Holiday Celebrations Kick off Thursday, Dec. 6th with Tree, Menorah Lighting; Illuminations Tour to be Held Saturday, Dec. 15th
- Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced that the City's annual Christmas Tree
Lighting Ceremony will take place Thursday, December 6th at 5:30pm on the City
Hall Concourse, followed by a meet and greet with Santa Claus in the Somerville
High School Highlander Café (atrium entrance).
For the first time, this event will also include a ceremonial lighting
of a Hanukkah Menorah, which will remain on the concourse throughout the

Income-Eligible Households May Apply for Interest-Free Heating System Replacement Loan
- Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Housing Director Dana LeWinter announced today
that the Housing Division of the Office of Strategic Planning and Community
Development is currently accepting applications for the Heating System
Replacement Program. The program supplies interest-free loans of up to $4,500
to replace a faulty or inefficient heating system for owner-occupant homeowners.
Loan eligibility is based on total gross income for the household, as well as
number of residents. The loans are interest-free

Sustainability and Environment (OSE) announced their support today for a
recently renovated two-family house as a model of Net-Zero Energy building for
the city. "Net Zero Energy building" is
a new construction practice where buildings are designed to produce as much
energy as they consume, and this renovated home, owned by Chungha Cha of Susterra
Partners in Korea and located at 13 Elmwood St. is the first Net-Zero home in
