FIRST HUBWAY BIKE-SHARING KIOSKS ARRIVING IN SOMERVILLE THIS MONTH

Installation of First Three Rental Kiosks Under Way at Union Square, Beacon Street and City Hall; Nine More Stations to be Installed at Locations Across the City; Official Ribbon-Cutting Set for August 8th at City Hall Concourse

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Somerville
Director of Transportation and Infrastructure Hayes Morrison announced today
that kiosk installation was under way in Somerville for the popular
metro-Boston Hubway bike-sharing system. 
The first wave of kiosk setup would include locations at Union Square,
Beacon Street near its intersection with Washington Street and at the City Hall
Concourse. Hubway is also installing new kiosks in Cambridge and Brookline as

SOMERVILLE SLATED FOR $18 MILLION GRANT FROM BOARD OF LIBRARY COMMISSIONERS

City on List for State Grant to Support Relocation and Construction of New Public Library; Union Square Site under Consideration for New Building

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A.
Curtatone and Director of Libraries, Maria Carpenter, announced today that the
City of Somerville has been approved by the Massachusetts Board of Library
Commissioners (MBLC) to be placed on a waiting list for an $18 million
construction grant to partially fund a new public library in the heart of Union
Square.  Fourteen other communities were listed,
but Somerville received the highest grant award in the state and placed first
in the second round of review. Eight more Massachusetts communities received

CITY, MASSDOT, MBTA SIGN PACT ON GREEN LINE STATION DEVELOPMENT FOR UNION SQUARE

SOMERVILLE - Massachusetts Department of
Transportation Secretary Richard A. Davey, MBTA Acting General Manager Jonathan
R. Davis and Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today that the City
of Somerville, MassDOT and the MBTA have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
that describes how land will be acquired by the City, or by the Somerville
Redevelopment Authority (SRA) acting as the City's agent, to be transferred to
the MBTA in exchange for a firm commitment by the MBTA and MassDOT to construct

East Broadway Construction Meeting

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 1 Alderman Bill Roche

MassDOT / Davis Square Construction

MassDOT is scheduled to install a raised crosswalk on Holland Street at
the MBTA Station.  Weather permitting, construction will begin on Sunday,
August 19th at approximately 2:00 a.m. and continue through
Wednesday, August 22nd.  During this period, the Buena Vista
Parking Lot will remain open. However no vehicular traffic will be allowed on Holland Street from
Winter Street to Dover Street.

SHAPE UP SOMERVILLE DIRECTOR ACCEPTS POSITION AT STATE DPH

Jaime Corliss to Head State’s Mass in Motion Program; City will Undertake Search for New Director

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A.
Curtatone announced this week that, in a meeting last week, the Director of the
City's Shape Up Somerville (SUS) program, Jaime Corliss, tendered her
resignation in order to accept a leadership position with Mass in Motion, a
program of the state's Department of Public Health.  Corliss has served as the SUS Director since
May of 2009, and will assume her new role, Manager of Community Initiatives
within the Division of Prevention and Wellness next month.
