Growers announced this week the launch of the Urban Agriculture Ambassador
Program as part of the City's larger Urban Agriculture Initiative. The
Ambassador program, a training course to be offered from March 16th through
April 6th over four consecutive Saturdays, will be offered to

interest in urban agriculture and desire to enhance the community. Courses will

SOMERVILLE - The Somerville Public
Library, in a partnership with the Harvard Library Innovation Lab, is launching
the "Awesome Box" project at all three library branches in early February. The
first municipal partnership of its kind, the "Awesome Box" will allow patrons
to share "awesome" book suggestions with fellow readers by depositing checked
books into the Box rather than into the regular "Returns" bin. "Awesome" books will be linked to a website
for community members to learn about and explore potential book titles.

the New Jersey coast this weekend to deliver a truck load of supplies to
victims of October's Hurricane Sandy. In
a partnership with the communities of Somerville, New Jersey and Summerville, South
Carolina, the City of Somerville, Massachusetts collected cleaning supplies,
food, and other items needed by victims in New Jersey to assist with cleanup

Somerville to be first U.S. City to offer Adaptive Leadership training to residents; 20 residents will be selected for free training course
SOMERVILLE-Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced this week that he has established the Somerville Academy for Innovative Leadership (SAIL), a new initiative to encourage and empower more residents to be effective leaders in the Somerville community. To launch the initiative, which is coordinated by the City's ResiStat program, residents are invited to apply to take part in The Art and Practice of Public Leadership, a free, intensive course on adaptive leadership led by leadership expert Dr. Hugh O'Doherty.
Spring Cleanup Logo Contest
The City of Somerville is seeking local artists to design a new Somerville Spring Clean Up logo. The new logo will be featured on the Spring Clean-Up t-shirts, City website and social media, and in local print media. The City seeks an image that conveys the environment and civic clean-up in Somerville; but one that is not too "busy." The graphic can, but is not required to, include the words "Somerville Spring Clean-up," and should reproduce well in newsprint. Use of color is strongly encouraged.
