ArtFarm Community Meeting, October 21

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 2 City Councilor J.T. Scott invite you to a community meeting to talk about ArtFarm – a former waste transfer site on Poplar St. being transformed into a home for arts, culture, community, and urban agriculture. The meeting is on Monday, October 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Brickbottom Gallery, 1 Fitchburg St. You can learn more about ArtFarm at www.somervillema.gov/artfarm.

Update on Tufts Partnership Agreement Negotiations Community Meeting, October 30

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and members of the Tufts Partnership Negotiating Committee invite residents to a community meeting on Wednesday, October 30, for an update on the current status of negotiations with Tufts University about a new Partnership Agreement between the City and the University. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the TAB Building, 167 Holland St. The previous Partnership Agreement expired on June 30, 2018.

Central Hill Playgrounds to Close Friday, October 11, Through Approximately Fall 2021

The Central Hill playgrounds on Highland Ave. are expected to close Friday, October 11, to advance construction of the new Somerville High School. A renovated version of the playgrounds, tentatively projected to open in the fall of 2021, will be established in front of Central Library as part of the Central Hill Campus Plan. Patrons are encouraged to use other nearby parks and playgrounds during the closure.

Community Preservation Committee Invites Public Comment on FY20 Applications for Community Preservation Act Funds

Community invited to public hearing October 23. Estimated $900,000+ available for historic resources and open space/recreation land projects.

As the City of Somerville prepares to award Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for Fiscal Year 2020, the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) is holding a public hearing of the FY20 applications on Wednesday, October 23, at 6:30pm in the 3rd floor Community Room at the Visiting Nurse Association, 259 Lowell St. Come hear about the project proposals before the Community Preservation Committee and tell us which you think should be funded.

Foss Park Community Meetings Scheduled for October 30, November 13

Join Mayor Joe Curtatone, State Senator Pat Jehlen, State Representative Mike Connolly, and Ward 1 City Councilor Matt McLaughlin for a community meeting about community needs at Foss Park. Two meetings have been planned, but each will cover the same information. Meetings are scheduled as follows:

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Somerville Seeking Residents to Serve on City’s Urban Forestry Committee

The City of Somerville is currently seeking applicants for a member of the public with expertise in urban forestry to join the Urban Forestry Committee, as well as a youth member for the Committee. The Committee’s input is intended to support and guide policies and plans currently being reviewed and advanced by the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development and the Department of Public Works.

SomerVision2040 Draft Chapters Open to Public Comment Until Nov. 1

The SomerVision2040 comprehensive plan committee spent the summer and early fall writing the topic chapters. It involved months of hard work, shared learning, and honest discussions. The draft chapters are now available for review and we look forward to reading your feedback!

Curtatone and the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD), in collaboration with the Craig Corporation are pleased to announce the affordable rental opportunity for one (1) rental apartment at 100 Fellsway West, Somerville. The apartment is available for rent through the Inclusionary Housing Program via an application and lottery process for income-eligible households with a combined gross income that meets the income eligibility requirements detailed below.

Nominate Properties for 2020 Preservation Awards by Wednesday, November 20

Winners to be presented during Historic Preservation Month in May 2020

The Somerville Historic Preservation Commission (SHPC) is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Preservation Awards Program. During its annual celebration in honor of Historic Preservation Month in May 2020, the Commission will honor Somerville owners who performed significant restoration or maintenance efforts on designated historic buildings, or on non-designated buildings erected before 1968. The nomination period is open through Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019.
