CITY AIMS TO BRING CAVALIA'S 'ODYSSEO' NORTHEAST U.S. PREMIERE TO ASSEMBLY ROW

Largest touring show in the world would generate up to $10 million in revenue for local businesses

SOMERVILLE
-City of Somerville officials are working with Cavalia, Inc. to bring the northeast
U.S. premiere of its $30 million show Odysseo
to Assembly Row this summer. The production, which is an equestrian theatrical
performance conceived of by one of the founders of Cirque du Soleil, has the
potential to  bring up to $10 million in
revenues for local businesses-hotels, restaurants and more-and would also
create local jobs for construction crews and service staff.

City of Somerville marks Pride Week with the 13th raising of the flag

SOMERVILLE
-A crowd twice the size of last year's joined the Somerville High School
Gay/Straight Alliance and Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone on Tuesday for the raising
of the Pride flag at Somerville High School. The annual event, which raises the
Pride flag in full view of both City Hall and the High School, is a declaration
that the City of Somerville is an open, welcoming and affirming city for the
LGBT community.

CITY OF SOMERVILLE’S HIGHEST EVER CREDIT RATING REAFFIRMED

Moody’s notes City’s ‘ambitious’ economic development plans and conservative fiscal stewardship

SOMERVILLE –Moody’s Investors Service has reaffirmed the City of
Somerville’s highest ever long-term credit rating of Aa2, citing the City’s commitment to redevelopment, conservative budgeting approach and ample reserve levels, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced.

 

MAYOR SEEKS TEMPORARY MEDICAL MARIJUANA MORATORIUM

Would provide time to review state regulations and City’s zoning bylaws

SOMERVILLE
-Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone is asking that the Somerville Board of Aldermen
approve a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries through June 30, 2014,
giving officials time to review both state regulations approved in May and Somerville's
own zoning bylaws to ensure the City will adequately address and comply with
the new law.

RESIDENTS URGED TO CONTINUE TO REPORT AIRCRAFT NOISE POLLUTION

New departure procedure alleviates noise over some parts of the city; residents should continue advocating for further changes

SOMERVILLE -The City of Somerville is pleased to announce that
Boston Logan International Airport has implemented a new departure procedure
for one of its runways that should decrease aircraft noise pollution over parts
of the city, but urges residents to continue reporting aircraft noise to compel
the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Massport's adoption of further alternative
operations at Logan Airport that would provide relief to all of Somerville.

Come to a hands-on workshop sponsored by the City of Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and Historic Somerville on How to Repair Windows Yourself on Saturday, June 29, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Somerville Museum, One Westwood Road. With proper tools, knowledge, and care, your windows can last for many years. This workshop will be a hands-on demonstration with an actual window from the Somerville Museum.
