Somerville Workers and Small Employers Invited to Attend Employment-Based Residency Information Session

Event hosted by Pathways for Immigrant Workers and the City of Somerville, will be held on July 13, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Connexion, 149 Broadway

The City of Somerville and Pathways for Immigrant Workers will host a free immigration legal information session for small employers and lower-wage workers on Wednesday, July 13, 2023, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Connexion located at 149 Broadway.

Somerville’s Annual Fireworks Display Planned for June 29

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville will host a Fourth of July fireworks celebration at Trum Field on Thursday, June 29 (rain date: Friday, June 30). 

Festivities start at 6 p.m. with DJ Philip Tan playing pop, soul, funk, and other classic tunes, followed by a live performance by local funk band Midnight Motion. Grab a bite from local food vendors like Nibble Kitchen, Italian Wizard, and more. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Somerville Issues Free Transit Passes to Low-Income Residents

Partnership with CAAS will deliver 500 unlimited MBTA passes to residents not served by other transit benefit programs

The City of Somerville, in partnership with the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS), is launching a pilot program to distribute 500 fully subsidized MBTA passes to low-income households in Somerville. This program is the latest of several initiatives the City has undertaken recently to deliver economic relief to residents and expand access to sustainable and equitable transportation options. Funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, this pilot is among the first means-tested transit pass programs in Massachusetts.

Community Path Extension Opening: Info About Additional Lighting, the MBTA Lease Agreement, and Detours

City of Somerville Collaborating with MBTA to Install Additional Lighting; Path Will Temporarily Remain Closed Between School Street and Gilman Square Green Line Entrance to Accommodate Somerville High School Reavis Field Construction

The City of Somerville is thrilled to share that the long-awaited Somerville Community Path Extension will open on Saturday, June 10, 2023. The path will be accessible by 7 a.m. on Saturday. The City of Somerville is looking forward to celebrating this achievement with the community.  More details about a joint opening celebration with the Commonwealth, MBTA, and City will be shared soon.

Applications Open for 41 Income-Restricted Rental Units at Arris

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville Housing Division are pleased to announce that applications are now open for 41 income-restricted rental units at Arris (20 Inner Belt Rd. & 56 Roland St.) in the Inner Belt/Brickbottom neighborhood, available through the City of Somerville’s Inclusionary Housing Program. Units are available to households making at or below 50%, 80%, and 110% of the Area Median Income. The lottery includes 8 studio apartments, 18 one-bedroom apartments, 14 two-bedroom apartments, and 1 three-bedroom apartment.
