Somerville PD Officer Suffers Non-Life-Threatening Injury Due to Unintentional Discharge of Duty Weapon

A Somerville Police Officer suffered a non-life-threatening injury via an unintentional discharge of the officer’s duty weapon causing injury.    

The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on April 6, 2022. The injured officer was transported to an area hospital where the Officer was treated and released. The officer is expected to make a full recovery.  No one else was injured.

The City of Somerville is seeking to extend its eviction moratorium by two months and ultimately sunset the moratorium on June 30, 2022. Otherwise set to expire on April 30, the proposed extension and sunset date will be considered by the Somerville Board of Health at its Thursday, April 21, meeting. The Somerville eviction moratorium is the last remaining municipal eviction moratorium in the Commonwealth. A range of alternative supports are available for qualifying households.

The City of Somerville’s proposed extension and sunset date for its eviction moratorium was unanimously approved by the Somerville Board of Health at their Thursday, April 21, meeting. Otherwise set to expire on April 30, the moratorium now has a 60-day sunset period and will end on June 30.

Somerville Police Update: Shots Fired - Mystic Ave.

On Sunday, May 1, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Somerville-911 Communications Center received multiple calls for shots fired in the area of 480 Mystic Avenue. Upon arrival, Officers discovered ten 9mm casings in the parking lot at Central Convenience, located at 460 Mystic Avenue. Officers also discovered ballistic damage to windows at the rear of 7 Memorial Road where bullets entered a window of a bedroom where children were sleeping. There are no known injuries at this time or evidence of injuries.
