Somerville Community Encouraged to Join Public Hearing on Proposed 2025 Water & Sewer Rates

Hybrid Meeting Will be Held Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m.

The City of Somerville Water & Sewer Department is inviting all members of the community to a public hearing that will share proposed Water and Sewer rates for Fiscal Year 2025.

The proposed changes to be discussed include:

  • A 10% increase in water volumetric charges
  • A 5% increase in sewer volumetric charges; and 
  • No change to existing base charges for both water and sewer.
     

The hearing will be held on Wednesday, May 29, starting at 6 p.m. Community members have can attend the meeting in-person or virtually:

Somerville community members are encouraged to provide feedback on Police Chief finalists. Search Committee interviews with finalists under consideration to become the next Somerville Chief of Police were recently recorded for public review. The interviews are now available online for viewing and comment.

Somerville Water and Sewer Department to Begin Its Annual Hydrant Flushing Program

The Water Department will be hydrant flushing tonight (8/8) from 6 PM to 12 AM. The crews will be flushing the hydrants on the following streets:

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne Announcing New Somerville School Building Committee Members

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne is announcing the members of the School Building Committee (SBC) who will provide oversight of the City’s construction plans for a new school to meet the needs of the Winter Hill Community Innovation School and potentially the Benjamin G. Brown School.

The members will work with City and Somerville Public Schools staff and consultants to oversee construction project management such as hiring project managers, architects, and construction contractors, and ensure that detailed plans and designs meet the needs of the school district within budget.

Mayor Ballantyne and Somerville Police Department Announce Expanded Data Sets and Tools on City’s Open Data Portal

Crime reports, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), motor vehicle crash, and traffic violation data will be updated continuously and enhance policing transparency

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Police Department (SPD) are making it easier for residents to access police data in Somerville. In collaboration with the City’s Department of Racial and Social Justice (RSJ) and the SomerStat Office of Innovation and Analytics, SPD is now publishing four updated or expanded police data sets to the City’s Open Data Portal. All data sets will now include new interactive data visualizations.
