Somerville Spring Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, May 4

​​​​​​​City-wide cleanup following community breakfast with partners Groundwork Somerville and Comcast Cares

Join the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville, and Comcast Cares for the annual Spring Cleanup, on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. All participants are invited to meet at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House on Shore Drive from 9 to 10 a.m. for breakfast, a short speaking programs, and information from local environmental organizations before heading out to cleanup sites.

Prospect Hill Park to Close Monday, April 8, for Rehabilitation

On Monday, April 8, Prospect Hill Park will close to the public for the next phase of the Prospect Hill Park Rehabilitation Project. Preliminary work began in October 2018. The park is expected to reopen in 2020.

West Branch Library Renovation Groundbreaking, Thursday, April 25, 11:30 a.m.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 6 Councilor Lance Davis, and Somerville Library Director Cathy Piantigini invite you to celebrate the start of renovations to the West Branch Library at a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m., at 40 College Avenue in Davis Square. Once work is completed, the West Branch will be accessible, will include community meeting space, and will be set up to meet modern library and community needs while preserving historic features.

City of Somerville Seeking Climate Forward Ambassadors for Winter/Spring 2020

The City of Somerville is seeking community members interested in learning more about climate change, and the City’s actions toward addressing its challenges. In 2019, the City’s Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) launched a Climate Forward Ambassador Program, stemming from Somerville Climate Forward, the City’s climate action plan, to educate residents about climate change and increase the community’s capacity to engage in climate action.

White Nationalism, Community Response, and the Rule of Law Forum, April 30

In response to concerns over recent events involving anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and anti-immigrant rhetoric, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, the City of Somerville’s Human Rights Commission, and Temple B’nai Brith of Somerville invite you to a community forum on White Nationalism, Community Response, and the Rule of Law. Elden Rosenthal from the Southern Poverty Law Center and Steven Gardiner from Political Research Associates will present and lead discussion. The event will be held on Tues., April 30, starting at 7 p.m., at Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave.

FBI & City Offer $10k Reward for Information Leading to the Arrest of Somerville Bank Robbery Suspect (UPDATE: Reward Doubled)

Update (5/9/2019): The FBI Boston Violent Crimes Task Force and the Somerville Police Department are doubling the reward to $20,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of a bank robber, believed to be armed and dangerous.

Night Market and Live Music Series Kicks Off in Union Square

Additional events planned for Ball Square and Winter Hill

Join the Somerville Arts Council and the Somerville Flea for a roaming series of three night markets that will take place throughout the city between May and July. The after-hours pop-up markets will feature live music as well as artisan and vintage vendors, and more, in Union Square, Ball Square, and Winter Hill.
