Carnaval Returns to Kick Off SomerStreets 2021

The SomerStreets 2021 season will start in a modified format, featuring a series of smaller events on Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6 (rain dates June 12 and 13). Newly Renovated Somerville Public Library West Branch Opens for Curbside Service June 1

The newly renovated Somerville Public Library West Branch at 40 College Avenue will open for curbside service starting Tuesday, June 1. Somerville Will Join State’s Reopening Plan on May 29

Somerville will join with the State in lifting remaining COVID-19 restrictions on Saturday, May 29. Please note, as of May 29, State guidelines will still require face coverings to be worn on public transit, in rideshares and taxis, in healthcare facilities, and in other settings hosting vulnerable populations, such as congregate care settings. Vaccines Now Available for People 12 and Older, Walk-In Vaccine Clinics Available

Residents age 12 and up are now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Please note that only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for minors. Anyone under 18 getting a vaccine will need parent or guardian permission. Visit mass.gov/vaccine for more information. New Activities Allowed Starting June 19

Additional activities and reopening guidelines in Phase 4, Step 2 of the State’s reopening plan will go into effect in Somerville on Saturday, June 19. Somerville will be joining Boston’s reopening schedule, which is on a three-week delay from the State’s plan. City Moves to Acquire Somerville Armory Building

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone submitted a $5 million proposal to the City Council to acquire the Somerville Armory building at 191 Highland Ave., which the Council approved by a unanimous vote at its May 13 meeting. The City would be acquiring the property via eminent domain and would preserve the facility for arts uses. FCC Offering Emergency Broadband Benefits

Starting today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is accepting applications for its Emergency Broadband Internet Program. The program is part of the American Rescue Plan Act passed earlier this year and will offer a credit of up to $50 a month for residential Internet connections and $100 toward the purchase of a computer or tablet.
