About Ignite: The Ignite Festival will not be extinguished! Instead of a festival per se, this year Ignite will be more like a festive and delicious night out. On November 7, this en plein air gastronomic gala will take place at restaurants throughout Union Square, from the Plaza to Bow Market and beyond! Each eatery will feature special fiery dishes and libations to warm you up.
Meanwhile, artists will transform the square with art installations involving light. Diners are encouraged to dress up in festive and toasty attire, so come as an arctic explorer, Sasquatch, or in your onesie. Between the fiery culinary delights and art to behold—don’t miss this chance to soak in the tasty vibe as the days get darker and colder. And most importantly, don’t miss this chance to support Union Square businesses, which need your support more than ever!
We will be following all city safety protocols. We ask that people wear masks at all times while walking around the square and to maintain strict social distancing. We recommend you make a reservation at a restaurant (up to six guests per table) and also don’t forget about take-out options!
Participating businesses include: The Independent, Brass Union, El Potro Mexican Grill, Gracie’s Ice Cream, Machu Picchu and more! Here are just a few examples of the Union Square menu... Over at Nibble Kitchen, Chef Afruza Akther will be serving a spicy hot Bengali snack called Chotpoti: potatoes and sliced boiled eggs topped with a mix of cilantro, roaster coriander seeds, red peppers, black salt and tamarind pulp. And at the newly opened HEN restaurant, may we suggest the spicy #5, succulent and zesty fried chicken served with ginger rice like you'd find on the streets of Bangkok!
Participating Artists and Curators: The Community Lantern Project, Anne Dresbach, Nathaniel Devarie, Owen McGarry, J. Sybylla Smith and more!
Ignite is a chance to taste something new, be festive, and support Union Square restaurants! Oh yeah, it's B.Y.O.B. (bring your own blanket).
