Somerville Prevention Services is committed to leading efforts around the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drug misuse in the City of Somerville.
Under Somerville Prevention Services falls Somerville Cares About Prevention (SCAP) and the Six-City Tobacco Initiative. SCAP is a community-based coalition that works to reduce underage substance misuse and the associated harms by increasing public knowledge and mobilizing the community. The Six-City Tobacco Initiative monitors regulations pertaining to smoking and tobacco/nicotine, based in Somerville, but also covering the cities/towns of Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Revere, & Winthrop.
Somerville Prevention Services also works with local stakeholders, including the Somerville Public Schools & the Somerville Police Department, to develop and administer the Student Health Survey (YRBS) for Middle School students (grades 6-8) and High School Students (grades 9-12) on alternating years.

Public Health Vending Machines
The City of Somerville Health and Human Services Department has installed two kiosks to provide FREE products to the community. These vending machines offer quick and discreet access to reproductive care items, respiratory health products, overdose prevention tools, and more to the whole community!

Somerville Positive Force (SPF)
We are looking for energetic high school youth and middle-school youth leaders, to serve as leaders as part of a team that addresses community issues related to underage drinking, drug use, and bullying.
Emergency Overnight Winter Warming Center
The City of Somerville Emergency Overnight Warming Center will operate seven nights a week from 5 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. at the former Cummings School located at 42 Prescott Street. Clients will have access to hot meals, safe sleeping spaces, and on-site housing navigation and case management services. For more information, click the button below.

Complete this form to schedule a free overdose prevention & Narcan administration training to learn how to understand, recognize, and respond to a potential opioid-related overdose. Participants may receive free Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and CPY face shields for rescue breathing while supplies last. Open to Somerville and Cambridge residents and businesses.
