Virtual Meeting to Share Updates on Spring Hill Sewer Separation Project, December 14
Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, City Councilors Ben Ewen-Campen and Mark Niedergang, and staff invite you to attend the second community meeting about the Spring Hill Sewer Separation Project. The meeting will take place on the GoToMeeting webinar platform on Monday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m. Register to attend at tinyurl.com/SpringHillSewerSeparation. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions to join the webinar.
At this meeting, staff will present proposed designs to upgrade our century-old underground infrastructure and improve streetscapes in Spring Hill, including major corridors like Highland Avenue, Central Street, School Street, and Summer Street. The proposal incorporates best practices in urban street design, safety and sustainability goals outlined in Somerville’s long-range plans, and community feedback collected earlier this year. The proposed plans will upgrade water mains, install new green infrastructure, and separate the sewer and stormwater systems to mitigate flooding and reduce waterway pollution. Proposed mobility changes include new bike lanes, new and improved crosswalks, traffic-calming measures to reduce speeding, bus stop modifications, and more to support safer, more sustainable travel for all users.
The first phase of construction is expected to begin as early as August 2021, and the project is estimated to take two years. For more information, visit somervoice.somervillema.gov/springhillsewer.
