Somerville Hosting Veterans Day Ceremony at Vietnam Moving Wall

Joint celebration with City of Medford to honor all US service members will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City of Somerville Department of Veterans Services are thrilled to share that the city will host a joint Veterans Day ceremony with the City of Medford to honor all military who have served our country.

This year’s ceremony is particularly important, as it will take place at the Vietnam Moving Wall, a half-sized replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Somerville is hosting the Moving Wall for the first time this year, giving those in the greater Boston area who can’t get to Washington a chance to experience the power of the memorial.

The Veteran's Day Ceremony will take place Friday, November 11, 2022, at Massachusetts General Brigham in Assembly Row (399 Revolution Drive, Somerville, MA 02145). The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a vehicle procession including the Patriot Riders and the Somerville and Medford Fire and Police departments.

Speakers’ remarks will begin at 11 a.m., and are scheduled to include:

  • Somerville Mayor Katjana Ballantyne
  • Medford Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn
  • Somerville City Council President Matthew McLaughlin
  • Somerville Director of Veterans’ Services Ted Louis-Jacques
  • Medford Director of Veterans Jeremy Johns
  • Members of the local Veterans community.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on the CityTV Facebook page (@SomervilleCityTV) and broadcast after the event on GovTV (RCN channels 13 or 613; Comcast channel 22) and on the City’s YouTube channel (youtube.com/SomervilleCityTV).
