The City of Somerville’s Planning Board seeks one alternate member.  

About the Somerville Planning Board 

The Planning Board reviews long-term and large-scale planning throughout the city. It approves and implements the SomerVision Comprehensive Plan, and it grants special permits for development projects in key transformational areas. The Planning Board also provides recommendations to the City Council on amendments to the Somerville Zoning Ordinance. 

What is the Time Commitment? 

The Planning Board typically meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Meetings typically last 2-3 hours. Depending on application volume, Board members should expect to spend 5 to 8 hours each month outside of meetings reviewing materials. This appointment includes a monthly stipend of $247.67. 

What is the Appointment Process? 

Members are appointed by the City Council after a review by the Appointments Advisory Committee.
