INSPECTIONAL SERVICES SUPT. EDWARD NUZZO TO TRANSFER TO CITY’S CAPITAL PROJECTS DEPT.

SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today that Inspectional Services Superintendent
Edward Nuzzo will be appointed to the position of Capital Projects Manager in the City’s newly reorganized Department of Capital Projects.  A licensed construction supervisor with over 25 years of experience, Nuzzo previously served the City as a capital projects manager from 1998 to 2010. As ISD Superintendent from 2010 to the present, Nuzzo has overseen a team of building and safety inspectors that provides inspectional and permitting support to every public and private construction project in the city, as well as assuring that
Somerville residents and businesses comply with health and safety codes.  Nuzzo has also played a leading role in the City’s aggressive rodent control program. Mayor Curtatone announced that Nuzzo would continue to serve as Superintendent of Inspectional Services until his successor is appointed.

“As ISD Superintendent, Eddie has done an outstanding job under very challenging circumstances,” said Curtatone.  “On the other hand, I know he enjoyed his prior career as a capital projects manager and clerk of the works for some very high-profile City projects, and I am not surprised that he wants to get back to focusing on direct, day-to-day  project supervision.  Eddie has been a star and a great team player in all of the roles he has played for the City, and we’re happy to support him in his desire to transfer back to a career that he finds more congenial and, frankly, that offers better pay.”

Argenziano School and knowing you helped bring it in on time and under budget.  There’s a lot of new construction on the horizon for the City, and I’m looking forward to helping manage capital dollars carefully while maintaining the best possible quality in workmanship and materials.”

As part of the FY20013 Operating Budget approved last June by the Board of Aldermen, the City reinstated the Capital Projects Management Department, which had been eliminated (with its functions outsourced to contract employees) in the FY 2011 budget cycle.  Nuzzo’s new post is one of two new permanent positions in the unit and pays $80,000 annually.  (A third position was transferred from another department.)  As ISD Superintendent, Nuzzo receives an annual salary of $67,200.
