FBI & City Offer $10k Reward for Information Leading to the Arrest of Somerville Bank Robbery Suspect (UPDATE: Reward Doubled)

Update (5/9/2019): The FBI Boston Violent Crimes Task Force and the Somerville Police Department are doubling the reward to $20,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of a bank robber, believed to be armed and dangerous.

The following is a press release from the Federal Bureau of Investigation:

The FBI Boston Violent Crimes Task Force and the Somerville Police Department are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of a bank robber who is considered to be armed and dangerous.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at approximately 9:57 a.m., the unknown male subject entered Middlesex Federal Savings Bank, 1 College Ave., in Davis Square in Somerville, Massachusetts, and allegedly committed an armed robbery.

The suspect wore a blue beanie, a dark glove on his left hand, and a hooded camouflage jacket featuring a Nike logo on the left side above his chest. He wore blue jeans, black sneakers, and carried a black and red backpack.

The suspect entered the bank holding a revolver, fired one round into the ceiling and demanded money from the teller. After a uniformed Somerville police officer in the vicinity of Davis Square was alerted to a possible bank robbery in progress, the officer entered the bank and the suspect allegedly fired a round at the responding officer before fleeing the bank on foot.

The suspect is believed to be a light skinned male in his thirties. He is approximately 5’7” to 5’11” in height, weighs approximately 175 pounds and has a medium build.

The public is being asked to review photos and video of the suspect here.

“In the interest of public safety, we’re asking anyone with information about this individual and his whereabouts to contact us immediately,” said Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division. “What’s most concerning to us is this individual’s brazen and violent behavior. We hope this reward will incentivize anyone with information to reach out so we can put a stop to this criminal conduct and ensure those bringing violence to our communities are held accountable.”

The FBI is offering a monetary reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of this individual. Anyone with information should call the FBI Boston Division’s Violent Crimes Task Force at 857-386-2000. Tips can also be electronically submitted at tips.fbi.gov.

The suspect is described as an approximately 5 ft 9 in., 175-pound, 20-35-year-old Hispanic male. The suspect was last seen wearing a black stocking hat, camouflage jacket, blue jeans, and black sneakers.
