Celebrate Somerville Arbor Day, May 20

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward 1 City Councilor Matthew McLaughlin, the City of Somerville Public Space and Urban Forestry Division, and the Urban Forestry Committee invite you to celebrate Arbor Day in Somerville. Take home some FREE native plant seedlings, enjoy kid-friendly activities, welcome newly planted trees in the park, and learn more about our urban forest. This year’s event is Saturday, May 20, in Glen Park, 150 Glen St., from 1 to 3 p.m.

The City of Somerville celebrates the city's urban forest with an annual Arbor Day event and works year-round to preserve and expand Somerville’s tree canopy, guided by the Urban Forest Management Plan. Hardworking urban trees play an essential role in our community, cleaning our air and making it cooler, providing habitat for wildlife, lowering our stress levels, increasing property values, and much more. The City has committed to planting at least 350 trees annually, prioritizing historically low-canopy and low-income neighborhoods. Last year, more than 500 trees were planted.
