Celebrate Pride with Somerville’s Annual Flag Raising & Big Gay Dance Party
First, please join Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Public School Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) on Wednesday, June 1, at 3 p.m. to raise the Pride flag in honor of LGBTQ+ Pride Month and LGBTQ+ Youth Pride. The ceremony will take place on the City Hall concourse, 93 Highland Avenue. Mayor Ballantyne, Somerville LGBTQ Liaison Jack Treanor, and student representatives from GSA will speak at the event. Following the raising of the flag, the Mayor invites attendees to join her in City Hall for a reception.
Later in the month, the Big Gay Dance Party returns to Union Square Plaza on Saturday, June 11, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. (rain date: June 18), hosted by the Somerville Arts Council and Department of Health and Human Services. This free outdoor dance party will feature music, comedy, and drag performances, as well as local LGBTQ+ craft vendors and community tabling.
Both events are open to all members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies. For more information on Somerville's Pride events and LGBTQ+ resources, contact Jack Treanor at jtreanor@somervillema.gov.
Persons with disabilities who need auxiliary aids and services for effective communication (i.e., CART, ASL), written materials in alternative formats, or reasonable modifications in policies and procedures in order to access the programs, activities, and meetings of the City of Somerville should please contact Adrienne Pomeroy at 617-625-6600 ext. 2059 or apomeroy@somervillema.gov.
