Beginning on Monday, Aug. 4, the left lanes of McGrath Highway over the Gilman Street Bridge in both directions, northbound and southbound, will be temporarily closed during off-peak traffic hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and beginning Thursday, Aug. 7, closed 24 hours a day. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be removing and replacing the west section (southbound side) of the Gilman Street Bridge.

Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction during this construction. Sidewalks on the southbound side of McGrath Highway will be closed, and there will be signage in place directing pedestrians to the northbound sidewalks. For more information about this work and for construction updates, please visit http://www.somervillema.gov/alerts/detours-and-construction-updates.

Repairs to the Gilman Street Bridge will involve approximately 18 months of work. Join MassDOT and the City of Somerville for a meeting to present the construction schedule and any lane closures and associated traffic diversions. MassDOT will present information followed by a Q&A. When/Where: Thursday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 p.m., at the East Somerville Community School cafeteria, 50 Cross Street.
