Beacon St. Closed, No Parking 10/22 & 10/23 for Repaving Work (Updated)

To complete the temporary paving work along Beacon St., City crews will be working on Tuesday, Oct. 27 to mark vehicle and bicycle travel lanes between the hours of 2:30 and 10:30 p.m. between Oxford St. and the Cambridge line. To complete this work quickly and efficiently, Parking will be restricted on Beacon St. during work hours. Parking enforcement will be relaxed in the area from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday until 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, however please note that safety regulations such as obstructing a fire hydrant or a handicapped access ramp will still be enforced.

We thank you for your continued cooperation, and hope that the temporary paving of Beacon St. will create better, and safer, conditions for all commuters and residents in the coming months.


Weather permitting, on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, a MassDOT contractor will install a temporary pavement layer over the entire length of Beacon St. as an interim measure to improve roadway conditions prior to the full-scale reconstruction project.

Work will be conducted between the hours of 9 a.m. and approximately 9 p.m. each day, and will require the closure of one lane of Beacon St. to all vehicles and bicycles, in two phases.

Construction between Oxford St. and Washington St. will take place on Thursday between 9 a.m. and approximately 7 p.m. During this time, one lane of travel will be open to westbound traffic only. Eastbound traffic will be detoured onto Somerville Ave. to Dane St. and Washington St. On Thursday, abutter access on the odd side of Beacon St. in this area will be restricted from 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. Abutter access on the even side of Beacon St. will be restricted from approximately 2 to 7 p.m.

On Friday, paving will be conducted from Washington St. to the Cambridge line between 9 a.m. and approximately 7 p.m. During this time, one lane of travel will be open to westbound traffic only. Eastbound traffic will be detoured at Calvin St. and the route will be well marked. On Friday, abutter access on the odd side of Beacon St. in this area will be restricted from 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. Abutter access on the even side of Beacon St. in this area will be restricted from approximately 2 to 7 p.m.

During this time, there will be no parking available on Beacon St. during work hours. Abutters and residents on Beacon St. and dead-end roads connected to Beacon St. are advised to find alternate parking before repaving begins for the duration of the repaving of their section of Beacon St. Residents with accessibility issues are advised to call 311.

Detours are as follows:

Phase I:

  • EASTBOUND:
    Somerville Ave 
    > Dane St. > Washington St.

Phase II:

  • EASTBOUND:
    Washington St. 
    >Calvin St. >Marion St. Concord Ave. Springfield St. >Cambridge St.

Detours and No Parking zones will be marked with signage, and police details will assist with traffic flow and detour information. MBTA bus routes will be diverted - please visit mbta.com for information.
