Somerville Internet Access Task Force
Launched in 2018, the Somerville Internet Access Task Force explores ways to preserve and expand affordable and neutral internet service across the City. Task Force members will meet with experts, conduct research, and participate in discussions to inform recommendations they will submit to the City. The Task Force is staffed by the City’s IT, Communications, and SomerStat Innovation and Analytics departments, and by community members.
In 2019 the Task Force submitted its recommendations for expanding internet access and supporting net neutrality. The Task Force report was reviewed by the Mayor and City staff, but unfortunately, acting on any of the recommendations has paused as the City deals with the COVID-19 crisis.
