Residents Sought for Newly Established Mayor's Appointments Advisory Committee
Committee will make recommendations to the Mayor to fill vacant positions on boards and commissions
SOMERVILLE - Applications are now being accepted for positions on Mayor Joseph Curtatone’s recently established Appointments Advisory Committee (AAC). The committee will be tasked with reviewing applications and making recommendations for vacant Mayor-appointed posts on boards and commissions with regulatory or decision-making authority.
Individuals on the AAC will be entrusted with making nonpartisan and informed recommendations for appointments to critical boards and commissions that serve the community such as, but not limited to, the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, the Conservation Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Ethics Commission. Members will be expected to review applicants based on relevant qualifications and skills and their ability and commitment to represent and serve the interests of the entire community. Members will also be required to uphold all equal opportunity standards.
The City will continue to be responsible for advertising and accepting applications for vacant board and commission seats as they become available. At the close of the application period, all applications will be sent to the AAC to review the applicants’ qualifications and eligibility. The committee will then present their recommendation to the Mayor who will make the final selection and submit it to the Board of Aldermen for confirmation, as required.
The AAC will be composed of three members, all of whom must be Somerville residents. Members will serve for a 1-year term and meet as needed when vacancies arise.
Once the application period concludes, the Administration will select two residents and the President of the Board of Aldermen will select one resident from the applicant pool.
Interested residents who wish to apply for the Appointments Advisory Committee should submit their name, address, telephone, email address, and a brief statement outlining their interest and any relevant qualifications by Monday March 5. Information can be submitted by emailing aconnor@somervillema.gov by close of business (4:30 p.m.) on March 5, or by mail with a postmark on or before March 5 to Attn.
