BOSTON MARATHON REMEMBRANCES

SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today the City of Somerville’s plan to honor the victims and families of the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings, and to provide support services to all community members who should need them on the one-year anniversary of the tragic events in Boston, as follows:

  • Beginning on Tuesday, April 15, American flags will be positioned at half-staff to honor all victims of the Marathon Bombings and its aftermath.
  • On Tuesday, April 15, a moment of silence will be held at 2:50 p.m. We invite community members to pause at this time to remember all victims and families.
  • On Tuesday, April 15, counselors and support staff from the City’s Trauma Response Network will be available at the Public Safety Building, 220 Washington Street, for any and all community members needing their services. Members of the public are also invited to visit the Public Safety Building for reflection, remembrances, or memorials throughout the day Tuesday. Counselors will be available during the following times on Tuesday: 7 – 9 a.m., 2 – 3 p.m., 5 – 7 p.m.
  • On Friday, April 18, TRN counselors will be available at the Public Safety Building from 3 – 6 p.m. Community members are also welcome to visit the site for reflection, remembrances or memorials in honor of Sean Collier and other individuals and families affected by the events in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon.
During these times on Tuesday and Friday, please note that Residential Permit Parking enforcement will be relaxed in the immediate vicinity of the Public Safety Building to allow community members to visit the site. Parking meter enforcement will be in effect.
“Not a day goes by that we do not remember and honor the victims of the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon, but in the last year we have learned so much about our hometown, its people, and more importantly about how love, hope and peace can persevere in the face of evil,” said Mayor Curtatone. “On this one-year anniversary, we will take extra time to remember Krystle Campbell, Lingzi Lu, Martin Richard, and Sean Collier, and the hundreds of other individuals and families affected by this tragedy. As Boston prepares for its 118th Marathon in the coming weeks, our hearts and minds remain with these families and with all of Boston for a happy, peaceful, and successful event. We all remain Boston Strong.”
