Join the Somerville Human Rights Commission

Applications for Five Open Seats Due Monday, September 30, 2024

The Somerville Human Rights Commission is actively seeking five new volunteer members to join their ranks, and we welcome applications from all Somerville residents ages 18 or older.


What is the Somerville Human Rights Commission?
The Somerville Human Rights Commission works with the City’s Office of Racial and Social Justice to help end unlawful discrimination.


Who Can Join?
The open position is available to any Somerville resident ages 18 or older.


What is the Time Commitment? 
The members of the Human Rights Commission must be able to commit to at least five hours of service per month.

The commission duties include attending scheduled meetings and events and researching current potential issues in Somerville.

The five open seats have the following terms, including options for both set terms and reappointments:

  • Seat one
    • has an expiration date of December 31, 2026, with the option for reappointment for a full two-year term. 
  • Seat two
    • has an appointment for a three-year term. 
  • Seat three
    • has an expiration date of December 31, 2027, with an option for reappointment for a three-year term. 
  • Seat four
    • has an appointment for a three-year term.  
  • Seat five
    • has an appointment for a three-year term.
       


How Do I Apply?
Applications are due by the end of the day on Monday, September 30, 2024.

  • A brief statement of interest:
    • Please briefly explain why you would like to join the commission and how you feel you can support its work.
